Former Staff warmed the Winter up!
21 January 2012
Guests of all ages and nationalities came together this week for the staff reunion of 2012 - Winter edition.
The week saw staff from as long ago as the 1970s and as recently as 2010 take part in a week of activities at Our Chalet. For some it was a chance to catch up with old friends, for others it was a chance to meet staff from different generations and for all it was a chance to share the spirit of the Chalet once more.

When the guests weren’t busy skiing or otherwise enjoying the fine weather that Adelboden offered over the week, there was a chance for reflection and storytelling. |
The staff from the 1990s and earlier remember skiing five days a week whereas the recent staff experienced a more varied programme including winter hikes. Each of the volunteers for winter 2011/12 got a chance to join the former staff on a programme day and two of them were shown the slopes of Adelboden by Inge Lyck who was one of the most memorable and respected Guiders in charge that Our Chalet has had. She has significantly influenced lives of many volunteers and staff and contunues to support Our Chalet.
| Current Winter volunteer, Mary, said “I could hardly keep up with her and she’s almost three times my age!”. |
In the evenings everyone came together round the campfire. The former staff took great pleasure (and showed great patience!) in teaching the younger staff all the songs which they used to enjoy singing at the Chalet.
| “It was wonderful to come together as a group of Guides and Girl Scouts of all different generations and nationalities and be able to enjoy the same activities” said Kat, also a 2011/12 winter volunteer. “I really got the impression that we had a shared history even though I had never met most of those people before.” |
Next Staff reunion is planned for Autumn 2013 and everybody is already looking forward to it!
