Our Chalet is busy "thinking" about the World Thinking Day

12 February 2012

Here at Our Chalet everyone is very busy preparing for World Thinking Day on the 22nd February.
We will have a full house of Guides and Scouts from all over the World staying and sharing this important day for us at WAGGGS.

This year at the Chalet we will be incorporating old traditions such as lighting tea light candles in the shape of the trefoil along with learning a little more about each other’s countries and Guiding lives.

The volunteers are eagerly preparing a new activity for all to take part in during the evening programme. This activity is centered around the environmental theme that WAGGGS have set following the UN Millenium Development Goals (MDG), that has been running for the past three years.

This activity will be a true Girl Guide and Scout wide game! Working in teams each group will represent a different country and consequently have differing economic and environmental handicaps. Various challenges throughout the game will highlight these differences, and so to conclude the game we shall be talking about how a countries worldwide status effects the sort of environmental impact it suffers. We hope all participants will both have a lot of fun and learn something about this World Thinking Day theme.

Recycling    The volunteers take the business of separating and recycling the rubbishvery seriously at Our Chalet. Here is Mary dragging a bin full of paper and cardboard to be transported to the recycling centre in the village.

Here volunteers learn about the environment by doing practical things  such as being involved in every step of the recycling process.

Collecting rubbish from the separating bins located in all the buildings, transporting it to the large bins and finally taking it up to the recycling centre in the village. It is much fun even in snow blizzard!

We would like to thank everyone for all their messages and also pass on our own Thinking Day wishes to every Girl Guide and Scout around the world.

Next update from Our Chalet is coming next week so stay tuned!
